VISUAL SUMMARY
"These are just some of my favourite things...!" Enjoy this assortment of images featuring the homes I've designed and my family has lived in over the last 20 years.

"It doesn't look like a duplex...!"
The Addition pays homage to the Character House nested at the front of the lot, and expands dramatically behind it. The main living area, located on the upper floor opens itself to the natural light with floor-to-ceiling glass sliders leading to a north facing deck and a south facing covered porch, both featuring panoramic views of the city. But wait, there's more...head up to the roof deck for a cocktail from the bar, a soak in the hot tub or a nap on your lounger in the sun...ahhhhhhhh.

Coming soon...the modern addition!
Character Retention Project - the 'addition' is nestled behind the smaller character house presenting itself as the contemporary version of Vancouver's past.

We've finally arrived to our 'Home Sweet Home'!

The modern addition...
Natural light spills into every room of the spacious interior. Warm, rich colours and geometric patterns weave themselves throughout the space, creating a joyful and vibrant tone. The family living space is featured on the upper floor taking full advantage of spectacular views.

A SHARED LANDSCAPE
One lot + four units = many needs!
This shared outdoor space is more than a beautiful garden. Each of the units hosts a private garden and sitting area, pathways to common areas and a communal seating area for the summertime strata meetings!

Garfield Drive
"The kids are gone...let's downsize and embrace the next phase of our lives."
This 1960's rancher was in great shape and had been well cared for over the past decades. The couple wanted to update the entire main floor. A warm, neutral palette was chosen to frame the spectacular views of Burns Bog Delta Nature Reserve. The kitchen however presents gorgeous blocks of colour; Breakfast Room Green cabinets with patterned black tiles on the floor, similarly patterned white tiles on the backsplash and a splash of Lemonade on the new built-in dining bench.

Garfield Drive
“The sweetest part of leaving home is knowing, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that you’ll always carry it with you.”

This kitchen brings an instant smile to every morning face :-)

About HAZELL + MAIN
Creative Origins
Gail started HAZELL + MAIN almost 30 years ago when she designed her first home for her growing family. Since then, Gail continued to design and manage the construction of many beautiful, functional homes, interiors and landscapes for friends and neighbours living off the vibrant Main Street area.“I consider myself a multi-disciplinary designer with a long and varied career. My education started with two years of study in Fine Art at Langara College followed by four years of study in Industrial Design at OCAD U (Ontario College of Art and Design University). Most of my career focused on exhibit design (public, interpretive, environments) for local attractions such as Science World and the Vancouver Aquarium, multiple other Canadian and American institutions and a large (20,000 square metre) Air and Space Museum in Bursa, Turkey. During those years, my husband and I designed, renovated and built eight homes within our beloved Main Street community. Finally, I can bring my experience and interests together to create thoughtful, artful homes and spaces where community, friends and family gather."
Hiring Hazell and Main was the best decision I could have made when hiring a designer. I was already impressed with Gail’s other projects, therefore started with a deep level of trust. She was gentle in her approach when asking if I would like to ‘push the envelope’ on my original ideas, so it was easy to say, "Yes!" I was tired of playing it safe with my home design and really wanted to express myself and have my home feel like I was on holidays and it does!!! Thank you for taking the wheel and showing me what you were capable of doing...if you hadn’t, I would have ended up with a basic reno; instead I have a FANTASTIC and EPIC reno! I can’t say enough. Thank you!!
